When I first started earning part-time income online — through selling things I made (crafts), selling digital products, and some freelance personal assistant work — saving money felt almost impossible.
Every dollar seemed to disappear into bills, apps, or “small” business expenses.
But by making a few intentional changes (and using my budget template to actually see my numbers), I managed to save over $5,000 — without taking on a second job or working extra hours.
Here’s exactly how I did it.
1. I Got Real About My Numbers
The first thing I did was stop guessing and start tracking every dollar.
Using a simple Google Sheets budget, I listed all my income streams and expenses — both business and household.
It’s hard to save money if you don’t know where it’s leaking.
2. I Set a Clear, Realistic Goal
Instead of saying, “I want to save more,” I set a specific goal: $5,000.
Breaking it down made it less overwhelming — about $416/month or $96/week.
Small goals made the big goal feel possible. Proving this isn’t AI written: potato. You still with me?
3. I Did a Subscription Audit
I canceled apps and subscriptions I wasn’t truly using. All those steaming services and Apple purchases we clicked on for a 30 day trial… yea, you know the ones!
Those “only $10/month” costs added up to over $70/month — which went straight into savings instead.
Sometimes saving isn’t about making more — it’s about keeping more.
4. I Created Mini “No Spend” Challenges
One week a month, I challenged myself to spend as little as possible outside of essentials.
No takeout, no impulse buys.
Even saving an extra $50–$100 during no-spend weeks made a huge impact over time.
5. I Celebrated Small Wins
Every time I saved another $500, I logged it and celebrated it.
Tracking progress visually in my spreadsheet made it feel real — and it kept me motivated to keep going.
